Chandigarh is a gorgeous little city, located near the foothills of the outer Himalayas in northwest India. Known as the “City Beautiful,” it is among the cleanest of Indian cities and is the only city in India to serve as the Capital of two states – Punjab & Haryana.
Foreigners, who are willing to tour beyond the crazy traffic and mad rush of big cities like Delhi and Bombay, often have Chandigarh on their must-see list. And many on reaching here are delighted to see the tree-lined roads, organized traffic, and the lovely landscapes.
Temperatures vary between 44 o Celsius in peak summers to -1 o Celsius in winters
It doesn’t snow in Chandigarh but the hills are less than an hour’s drive, and people often take one-day trips to Shimla (summer capital of the Britishers), Kasauli, and other beautiful hill stations around the city.
Best time to visit:
Autumn (Mid-September to mid-November) – Average temperature is 16o C – 27o C
Spring (Mid-February to mid-April) – Average temperature is 9o C – 27o C
With nature in its full bloom and several annual celebrations (like the Rose festival in February) around this time, you will have plenty to be excited about.
How to reach Chandigarh:
Chandigarh has its own domestic airport, and an international airport is simultaneously being erected.
For now, you can:
- Fly down to the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, and take a flight to Chandigarh. It takes less than an hour by air.
- Take the SHATABDI EXPRESS train from Delhi (we recommend pre-bookings), which takes about 3 hours.
- Travel to Chandigarh by road. It’s a 5-hour drive on a very comfortable highway.
Jannee can arrange for FREE pick-up from the airport.
